It is a fun filled Friday evening and all day Saturday, November 22 and 23 rd
at the West Prince Curling Club at Mill River as our annual Kevin Gallant
Memorial Bonspiel took place.
The silent auction tables were loaded with great items and home baking.
The bids totaled $1200, which will be donated to Westisle Composite High
to be used for bursaries in Kevin’s name.
Thanks to O'Leary Farmer’s Co-op for their continued sponsorship of this
event. In addition this year, they donated a basket of Compliment’s
goodies which was raffled. A donation in the amount of $230 will be made
for the Christmas Hamper Program.
Winners of the spiel were 1 st Place Regular Curling – Morris LeBlanc,
Colleen and Rick Campbell, and Kennedy Grieder. Second Place was led
by Bob Matheson and on his team were David and Gwen Clements and
Jeff MacIsaac. The team skipped by Wayne Arsenault with Ricky Cooke,
Daryl Adams and Johny Gallant took third place.
Winners of the Stick portion of the bonspiel were tied for first place – the
Marie and Alfie Pineau and the team of John Vincent and Harvey Holm.
Dianne and Victor Hogan came in third.
Again a special thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and participants that
continue to support this bonspiel.
Our Tuesday night competitive league is rocking along. The team skipped
by Kevin Ellsworth is still the team to beat. However, Daryl MacDonald is
right on his heels and there are other teams gaining their momentum as the
league progresses and the curlers start to gel as a team.
If you are interested in being a more casual curler, then Wednesday
afternoon is the time to come out to the Club. Are you wondering if the
knees still have what it takes to get down in the hack or maybe you would
like to give stick curling a try. Please give our Manager, Lin a call at 902-
859-2944 and she will give you more details.
If you are hoping to put a ham or a turkey in the freezer in time for
Christmas, get your name on the sign up list for our upcoming Ham and
Turkey spiel taking place on Saturday, December 7. The deadline is
Wednesday, December 4. We have room for stick curlers, regular curlers
and teams of two or four.
Students from West Isle High School started last week to have their
physical educations classes at the Curling Club. This is a great physical
activity now and is a sport that can carry anyone through even into their
nineties. They are a joy to watch their enthusiasm.
Upcoming events include:
Saturday, December 7 is our First Annual Ham & Turkey Spiel, sponsored
by Mo’s Independent Grocers. Come out for a fun time and a chance to
win a ham or a Butterball turkey. Stick Curlers pay $20 person and regular
curlers $25 person. Snacks will be provided throughout the day. Please
register by December 5.
Saturday, December 28 is our Family Social Curling and Dinner. Stay
tuned for more details.
Good Curling!
